How Television Has Effected Politics

Television has played a vita role in presidential elections since the 1960s.  Watch the televised debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.  After watching the video, write a response answering the following questions:

1.  Which candidate do you think  benefited the most by this televised debate? Give at least two reasons to support your answer.

2.  Why would television work to these candidates advantage better than newspapers at the time? Give at least two reasons to support your answer.

3.  Do you see any bias in this debate?  Give your opinion and support it with two examples.

This must be typed, size 12, Times New Roman, double-spaced.

  1. 1.)John F.Kennedy was benefited the most by this televised debate. He was benefited because he has a younger look and most people gravitated to him, and by him looking younger people voted for him because they knew he would live the whole period. Unlike Nixon who they felt because he looked older would die off quicker and they would have to reelect anyways.

    2.) One reason why television would work better for these candidates than newspaper is because it would get what they had to say out to the public faster and they would get to the public faster and the public would also get to see the facial expressions of these candidates and not just a few still pictures of them ,and this might help these two because ones facial expressions might be more receptive than the others which would work to their advantage .

    3.) Biasness is shown in this video because everyone is basically leaning towards Kennedy and they aren't really being open to Nixon's stand point.
