Alexander the Great???

We have been studying Alexander the Great in class.  We have learned about his many accomplishments as well as some of his disappointments.  So the question remains:  Was Alexander the Great....well, great?  Using the primary sources you received in class, I want you to assume the persona of one of the historical figures and write a letter to Alexander.  Tell him whether you believe he is "great" but make sure to use textual evidence to explain why or why not.  You will post this letter on the blog under "Comments".  Make sure to complete the following:

  • Must be completed in first person
  • Allude to at least two historical facts, events, people, etc.
  • Your persona must be one of the people from the primary sources
  • Use the primary source to create your letter, i.e., YOU are that person, you are just writing another letter.
  • Must be at least two paragraphs (6-8 sentences per paragraph)
  • Due by Friday, December 5, 2014.
Remember your topic question:  WAS ALEXANDER THE GREAT REALLY "GREAT"?

  1. Dear Alexander,

This will describe our fears of us, Macedonian troops. Your skills in battle are second to none. We are undefeated and looks as if we can never beaten. However, we question your title, "Alexander The Great". We believe we encountered so much in all of these wars we fight. We are exhausted, hurt, wounded permanently, and in need of seeing our loved ones. But what do you do you make us fight your battles in order for you to seem unstoppable. You may disagree on this but you must not have any care to stay alive and survive what we lose and to see your loved ones, so you will never understand what we go through as we think and go into battle.

Alex, we have been battling for years now and none of us have went home. You send us to just fight, Fight, and FIGHT!! It has got to stop! We have done enough fighting; you rule and have power over millions of people already and they know of your leadership skills somewhat. All we want is to see our kids and wives. All we want is to stop, we've done enough; let us free from this. We have witnessed to many loss during and not during our battles. Our soldiers dying in battle, or from unknown diseases, and sickness. Alexander you may think of your self has a great leader and a god but your not. You are just a low man who has greed in his heart and wants to do anything to get your way and I'm sick of it. I want to see my love ones and home and I'm pretty darn right that everyone else wants to as well. So Alex listen clearly to our plea, Let us free and lets us travel back home where we can cherish the rest of our lives.

    ~Sincerely,
    Quintus Curtius

  2. Dear Alexander,

We are tired of fighting and conquering. We have been traveling for eight years. We have traveled from Macedonia to India. We have already conquered Persia and Thebes. Is that not good enough? We can't push any further. We have already lost so many men from battle and disease. Why do you push us so far? We can't travel any further.

We want to go home and see our families. We want to see our wives. I don't want the Persian wife you forced me to marry. I want to see my wife I married on my own. I also need to see my kid. I want to die happily and at home, not in war. I only ask of this one favor, to let us go home and see our families. Just please think about it.

    ~Your Warrior

  3. Dear Alexander,

Do you remember when Philoneicus brought your father Philip that magnificent horse. The horse's name was Bucephalus and he was very wild and unmanageable. And those character traits are the reasons that he is not able to be mounted. Once your father couldn't mount Bucephalus he ordered he be led away. But I remember that one person who would not let that horse go, and that person was you Alexander. I can still remember you saying that last remark before you changed that horse:“What a horse that are losing, and all because they don't know how to handle him, or dare not try!" At that very moment you walked up to Bucephalus and, as I like to say, worked your magic. I SWA you as you held onto his bridle then turned him around towards the sun. Then I noticed that Bucephalus was afraid of his own shadow as it appeared. When you noticed that Bucephalus was afraid you walked alongside him trying to cal me him down. And that's just what you did. I was very surprised when you mounted Bucephalus because he wouldn't let anyone mount him before now.

Alexander you have broken all of the fear that came with Bucephalus. When you realized that he was now free of his fear you urged him forward so that he could show his speed. While on your gallop with Bucephalus, your father and his friends were nervous for you because they thought that Bucephalus was way too wild to mount and ride. But when you both returned safely, the rest of the company broke in to a so graciously earned applause. I remember your father giving you that last statement that might have changed the Greece culture:“My boy, you must find a kingdom big enough for your ambitions. Macedonia is too small for you." I would have to agree with the King on this one.

    Sincerly, Plutarch

  4. Dear Alexander,
Hello, young ruler. I have heard of your victories against King Darius and his men, and your takeover of the Middle East, and I must say I am quite impressed. I remember the day your father and I realized that you would become a great ruler one day. The day when Philoneicus the Thessalian brought your father, Phillip, a horse named Bucephalus, and they put it through trials to see whether or not they could tame it. Your father gave up and decided it was an unmanageable horse, but you begged to differ. You tried to tame that horse and you succeeded. That memory has long since remained in my mind to remind me that you were a determined one. However, I believe that you have let your ambitions get the best of you and not in the best of ways.
You see young king, I don't think you know your limits. Of course your ambitions and ideas are fantastic, in fact I encourage you to conquer all that you want, but I don't encourage you to force your soldiers to help conquer your ideas all at once. Your soldiers have families and friends awaiting them in Macedonia, and you have been keeping them from their loved ones for your needs to master the world. You can adopt the Persian customs and traditions, but you cannot force your soldiers to do the same by forcing them to marry Persian women. After all, you did claim that these men in your army are free men who chose to fight alongside you. Why take their freedom now by enforcing new culture upon them? I do believe you have created a legacy for yourself, Alexander, but would I say that you have earned the title of being one of the "greats"? Well, not really, no.

    ~Sincerely,
    Plutarch

  5. Dear Alexander,

My king many in the kingdom ask if you are great. My king I think you are better than great you are magnificent. I hath not said this because I want something. But rather that I think that is true. For what king can conquer lands like you. At the age of 19 you walked in and killed all of the kingdom's best warriors. Then you reclaimed your rightful throne. You are also smart. You were tutored by the one and only Aristotle. You are the perfect make up of a king. You are smart and skillful in combat.

You are a very powerful conqueror my king. What king you know has never lost a war in his whole life. You conquered all of Asia and India. When you would conquer a land you would let them keep their culture. That is very smart. As long as the countries pay taxes they are good for you. You have the most respect, money, and power. You legacy will live on for generations.

    Sincerely,
    Plutarch

Hi! I'm Quintus Curtius and I think the attitude you presented was very rude and uncaused for.You shouldn't be so greedy and incosiderate the soliders were tored and wanted to see their families I understand you don't have any children so you woudn't feel the same way as others. You should really think about them sometimes and maybe people won't betryaed you and regret you being "The Great".

I think that you are a very good person in the inside, but you ahve a hard way of showing it you should just be yourself and stop tryring to be the person your notYou would actually make a great leader if you'd change your insecure ways.Don't make people regret being on your side because that's what will happen evryone will turn againist ou and betrayed you.Because your not GOD yor a person just like them so you need to act like it instead of criticizing them.

  6. However, you men have showed heart. You men have shown more heart than any other being I have ever seen. As men you have accepted these wars! You have accepted our lost ones, and almost every bone in our body being broke. You have shown heart to our so called leader, but you have shown too much heart. He was a great leader at first, but now, now he belittles us like the dirt under his finger nails. All of the wars we have fought to conquer will soon be much wasted time, especially the one in Greece.
We shall stand up together especially the veterans. This Alexander the Great sees his wife every day, but we see our families hardly at all. This must end and end now. He gives himself these names such as the God or the Son of Zeus. How dare he does this, he shall not die but shall give us respect. My men you have the bravest souls anyone person could have. So as I write this letter I do it out of love for my men. Since I am the general I declare enough is enough. There shall be no war until you men have rest.

    Sincerely, The Campaigns Of Alexander

  7. Dear Alexander,
I am one of your many warriors and I have a complaint about the war. I understand you want us to fight, but it's getting tiring. I'm starting to get a little war weary, because all we do is fight. I never see my family and I miss them dearly. My beloved wife have been waiting on me to come home and be with her and have family time with her and the kids. I have two kids, who I never get to see anymore. All you do is fight, we know we're undefeated and everyone else knows also. Are you trying to seem like an unstoppable army when we already know this. It's getting old. You've won millions of battles. Why do you need to win more?
I’m starting to question “are you even really great”? You’re making people go against you because of your conceited ways. Not only do you always make us fight, but now you’re boasting and you think you’re a GOD, which you are not. You’re making some of the warriors turn against you, but that’s none of my business. Anyways, if you want to consider yourself as “ T H E G R E A T “ you shouldn't treat us different than before we started all of this. At first you were with us, acting like one of us, now you are not and you seem a little phony to me. So do I, Quintus, think you are great? Absolutely not, but you did achieve great goals in life.
    ~Sincerely, Quintus Curtius

  8. Dear Alexander,
I should have known that one day you would try to rule the entire world. Your great motivation towards your people will lead you so many ways young king. For, you are so young I do not think you possibly understand what your power is and how you manage it. Do you possibly remember your horse, Bucephalus? You treated it with much kindness and respect. It was so wild and nobody was able to gain much amount of control as you did. Me and your father knew that one day, someway, somehow, you would rule the entire world with your fancy. However, my king I express to you that I feel as though you are being very cowardly towards your people and your army. Even though in fact you were taught by Aristole, you were still taught by many other great people for my to know that this is not in your heart.
In the following events from Tyre City, I saw that you mostly fought the whole with your two hundred feet bridge of torture. Many people fear of you now, my king. I know see that you seek to take over India, my homeland. I am writing for you today to tell you that you and your army are not quite ready for the troubles of my bold people. I knew your father and I do not think he would have wanted this for you. My people and I are not just another run through city that you have had before. I know that you are not possibly accounted for for what is about to happen. I am here to try to cease this before it even begins. I must warn you, Alexander.

    Consider our warm welcome,

  10. Dear Alexander,
I have watched you take on the great persona of being a leader. Your unstoppable skills and motivational speeches have helped us defeat many people. I am proud to be a warrior fighting with you for as it seems that as a unity we are stronger than ever. When we defeated other allies I saw you take on a roll that not many leaders have done. You have tried to join traditions together so that we all could be one. However I have realized that your cause was to make your authority stronger. You have used the people who were with you from day one and turned your back on us. At first I thought that you were a miraculous gift from god. But now I am starting to see the real Alexander. Now that you have taken of lives I wonder how far will you go? I feel that half of the time while we were with you was a waste of time. Instead we could be at home with our love ones who are desperate to see us.
Macedonians and Persians are real people. We believe that we have already encountered enough danger to ourselves. Creating another war is something we can no longer endure. You have said that you want to be “Alexander the Great “but being a good fighter is not only what makes up a great person. You will have to change your ways because they are not adding up to what you want to be. Please don’t get me wrong I do respect your talents because you have leaded us this far but now it’s time to go home. You are being too greedy and soon it will catch up with you and I don’t want to get caught.
    Sincerely,

  11. To Alexander,

It is us the Macedonian Soldiers, who desperately need a break. We are missing our wives and children, and they worry about us everyday. Why must we go through this turmoil of not knowing if we're o.k. Alexander we can't battle on the battlefield for another minute, we're tired and worn out. Our wife and children, want to know if I'm o.k and to make sure we're not harmed.

We want a king that cares enough to give his army a break once in a while. I am starting to feel that you are not so great anymore. I need to know that my king that I'm fighting for is concerned and considerate of his army. I as a Macedonian feel that you Alexander, have become a little greedy. Alexander you want more than you can handle, many of your soldiers are dying in war; and I feel there is no sympathy

  12. Dear Alexander ,
You have changed over the last past 8 years . You were a spectacular king when you were 19 . Then once you started to get a little bit older you started to get a little greedy . When you first became the man in charge we believed that you were actually Alexander The Great because we were winning all of the battles . It was very intense fighting for you . I had no problem fighting for you to be honest . You always seemed to care for us and you always motivated us . That encouraged me to do my best while in war . Because you made me believe that I actually had a purpose for fighting . When you were younger you were always in the Greece characteristics which made me also believe that I could believe you and that you weren’t a trader .
But when you became older you made me believe otherwise . Why would you want me to marry someone that is it in the Persian territory ? That would be an offense to my wife and kids it would also make me a liar because I made a vow to my wife I gave her my words . And I would like to keep my words because I am a man of my words . I understand that you have a special relationship with the King’s daughter of Persia , but why would you want us to have a relationship with them ? You had so many bright ideas . Why couldn’t you find one in this situation because making your soldiers marry someone of the opposite side is not a very good idea . How would you feel if your father was still a King of Greece and he made you marry some one to the Romans and you had a wife and kids at home ? Wouldn’t you feel betrayed ? Because this is how most of your soldiers are feeling ! All we want is our King that was once Alexander The Great and not Alexander The Trader ! If you would just be yourself again I believe that your soldiers would have the same intensity and courage to fight for you , but now that you have went to the Persians we feel that we would be fighting for someone that is a trader and / or betrayal . If we could just have the king that helped us defeat the Tyre and Persia we would gladly appreciate it because it seemed like the king daughter of Persia has got into your head !
    Sincerely ,
    Arrian

  13. Dear Alexander,
I feel that you are a very selfish and unmindful person. I feel that, as warriors, we should be able to lay our heads down in the comfort of our own homes, instead of with our fellow men. I just don't get how a man, as yourself, can gain an entire world in the palm of his hand and still want more. We have teamed up together to obtain two battlefield wins against the Persian army, in which led to us marching through Persian territory and recruiting some of their soldiers. The average person would have been happy for that, but of course you would not be happy with it. Us, soldiers, have done all we can do to make you proud to call us our men. What else do you want us to do?
I feel that you could think about someone else besides yourself for once. I still cannot fathom why you demanded to be treated as a GOD! You even dressed yourself so you could appear to be as the gods. What kind of sick minded person would think that way? If having all of this success makes you feel that you are invincible, then maybe you don't deserve to be a king. You have not lived up to be considered "GREAT" in my opinion.
    Your warrior,
    Quintus Curtius

  14. Dear Alexander

We the Macedonians , who believe that we have already encountered every danger, we know that fresh war with the most warlike nations of India still remained. I have been with you since the moment you gave your speech right before we was about to fight the Persians to now. Ever since we have been undefeated and has conquered almost all of the region. The other thing is that your men has never had a break, we your men have been traveling 8 years non-stop, as your men grow old and die you have never caught the gratitude to stop and visit our home. As a soldier it is hard to be away from your family and kids, missing the important parts of there lives. I understand that you might not care about going home, your focus is on ruling the whole world, which is possible but there is a time and a place to settle down for a while. I respect that you have a wife on this journey with you, you have someone to keep you company at night, we don't!
We have fought and fought, a full 100%, but as we stand hear in India listening to your speech, we have came to a thought that your not the same Alex you was before we fought against the Persians. Your whole attitude and perspective has changed from we are a team we fight together we die together, and how we fight as a group of Macedonian free man, to us being a Phalax style fighting group of mixed cultural men being replaced by Persian men you barely no then too the men who has been with your from the beginning. we believe that your caring personality has left and know your a man that wants to things that is best for you. We do still respect your great leadership but we the men have became tired.

  15. Dear Alexander,
Young king, you have proven yourself worthy to us all. You have shown that you are all powerful, and shall not lose any battle that you will fight. We have been nothing but loyal to you almighty king. When you decided to bring the Persians over and make us men marry their kind, we still were loyal. We have followed you since day one, and it has been a tough journey. From the elephants riding with men on top, and the day you married your Persian wife. You have changed my king, but we have stuck by your side.
Now after I thought we have saw it all, you decide to come take over India. Something I can say we are not prepared for. I want to see my children and real wife again. You can travel this battle alone, but we are turning around. So many of our brother have died fighting for you. The least you can do is thank us, because it wouldn’t be a fight without us. Continue to fight with your Persians, forget about the men who have died that have been with you since we left Macedonia eight years ago. Remember how you treated them and us. Alexander the great they call you, be prepared to watch your empire fall if you continue this journey.

  16. Dear Alexander,

This is Dawonte, a warrior of Darius king of Persia. I was wondering how did you defeat us with your little army and our stacked army. Your warriors dominated us, which was totally unexpected. Your warriors fought with pride and left all they had on the battlefield. We had a hard time with your powerful and very solid squad. We barely made it out alive , but we didn't and won't surrender.

You are very unpredictable and we really weren't expecting what you brought to the table today. Your warriors fought with unity and got the best of us this time. You warrior had did a battle technique us Persians have never seen before. We were pushed and tossed around, and those long swords made you all very unstoppable. You are Great in my eyes, but next time we meet you won't be Alexander the Great, you will be Alexander the Defeated. You will not take over our empire like you have all over the world, nor will you enslave our women and children. At the end of the day Persia will be Persia and you will not conquer us.

    P.S. Persia's #1

  17. Dear Alexander,
In the beginning you had the mentality of a great king and leader, but somewhere within these eight years your mindset has change. You are selfish and has shown no gratitude to those who weep and morn to see our family. We have conquered more than half of Persia and you still not satisfied. What more do you want from us?
You are selfish and ungrateful.?How long will it take you to realize that their is no "I" in "TEAM"?

I stood by your side when you married your Persian wife. What happened to your morals? You have crossed the line beyond measure. How dare you ask my brothers and I to treat you like a God, and you have damaged the mentality of a King? We have worked extremely hard, yet you can't take five seconds and give us credit. It's not all about you and most likely will never be. You need to grow up and start acting like an adult. I will never respect you as a God, but as a person. I hope you take a time to reflect on your actions. I plead that you change your bad ways and become the Alexander I knew from the beginning.

    Sincerely,
    Quintus Curtius

  18. Dear Alexander,
I may have to say that I cannot continue on with you on this conquest journey. I know you may not care that I am leaving you, but then again you may need all the men you may need at the rate you’re going. You claim to call yourself Alexander the GREAT, but I dearly have to say that you are no longer, to me, Alexander the Great, you are Alexander the Game Changer. Thinking you would only want to defeat Athens and Thebes, all the power form winning has went to your head. What is the point of expanding your empire, if you can’t even handle the empire you have won? You are hurting innocent people by enslaving them and some of them are barely teenagers. With you continuing on this journey, you are losing men to diseases and they are being killed in battle. Without the competition you have now, you would only end up competing with yourself.
You have taken away the only things that I love, my Greek background and my freedom as a single man. You are forcing me to marry to the enemy and turn against the people who I am fighting for. If your father were alive now, he would be highly disappointed in you because you are beginning to lose your Greek origin to a woman who you may not even be in love with. If only they knew what you were doing, you would be a disgrace to your people. You are a bad influence to the young. I am leaving you now, and if I may make it back home and you return alive and well, I will be impressed with you for surviving this long.

  19. Dear Alexander,
You were sent to me by your parents at the age of 13 and you became my student at the Lyceum to learn philosophy. As I was to teach you at the Lyceum, I could tell you were different from all the other students their. You had a great and powerful mind. When your Father died and you took over as king, I knew you would do good as King. You won and fought wars at the age of Nineteen. When you took over Tyre, that was one of the most strategic things you have ever done. When you fought them you was building a bridge & two towers. I could tell your were one of my students. You were a great and Powerful leader.

As the years went on, taking on more and more lands and spreading the Greek culture, I noticed something. When you fought Persia and won times and times again, you began to change. You started to act more and more like the Persians. As the King of Macedon, the lands you conquered they wanted to follow you because you were fair and exchange, you showed them the Greek culture. Now you are wearing their things and doing their cultures. Another thing is that you began to get greedy and take over more and more lands. Even you're soldiers began to leave you. Alexander, as your former teacher, I suggest you change your ways before it gets any worse

    Sincerely, Your former teacher Aristotle.

I feel as if I can’t go on with you any longer. Things are changing and It’s to a point where I have to take a step back from things. I applaud you for every good thing that you have done. The conquered territory does belong to you, but i’m starting to give up.It’s time to go back home. We did what we came to do. We don’t want to be the overachievers that’s dead.

I know you're Alexander the great but I'm starting to question your Greatness. You were one of us but it seem to me that you don’t understand anymore. I was down for you from day one but I'm not going to die for you anymore. You can fight your own battle Mr. Alexander The “GREAT”. If You're so great then finish this by yourself. You don’t need us. 21. Dear Alexander the "Great",
When I started fighting for you, I honestly thought you were a great man. You were a leader that everyone wanted and needed, you were determined and brave. For once, I felt like I had a reason to fight. You encouraged us to fight our best, you wanted us to feel confident. And that's exactly what we did. We have been traveling for 8 years, and have already conquered Athens and Thebes. I am happy with how far we've gotten with this journey to conquer the world. But I have noticed something about you, you're changing. You're becoming a person who doesn't care for his people. You're becoming very greedy, and we don't like it.
I think it's time that I return home to my family. I haven't seen them in so long because of your selfish ways. You are to stuck on power, that you don't even pay attention to your men. I am glad that we were able to conquer this much, but I am leaving. My family is way more important than some glory that won't even last that long. I hope that you snap back into reality and realize that all that glory was temporary. Now that you have lost a few of your soldiers, I want to wish you good luck on the rest of your journey to conquer the world.

  22. Dear Alexander,
In my honest opinion I feel you aren’t very great. I admit in the beginning of our trip you were very honest, loyal, caregiving, and brave, but then you turned on us and became conceited and arrogant. You let your greed become higher than your own soldiers; you didn’t care about our needs you wanted more power. For seven years we stayed loyal and marched with you but now you want us to fight elephant monsters we have never heard of. Many men have died and your thirst for glory is killing us all slowly, too many men have died and we just can’t continue. I feel I should snatch that “great” right out of your and the way you gave yourself titles like a god just proves how much you’ve changed and only care for yourself. All we have awaiting us if we continue is gloominess and fear.
When you finally decided to return home it was a joyous event, but when you died of malaria all of us soldiers celebrated a little inside. We had been pushing and fighting for you for seven years and you turn on us and become a self-centered person only caring about your wants and needs. You fought with us all these battles pushing us after many men died even after there was no need to continue you wanted more power. All of us Macedonian soldiers pleaded to go home but you were too selfish and it got yourself killed at thirty three. I think that’s just a big bucket of karma, so Mr. Alexander the “GREAT”. You aren’t really great after all.
    Sincerely,
    Quintus Curtius

  23. Dear Alexander,

Your display of not doubting Bucephalus the horse and taking the time out to help him proved to me you will be a great leader. Even when your dad, me, and the others thought he was nothing but a wild and unmanageable horse, you saw what we didn't see, the potential of a great horse. When others tried to tame him they struggled and couldn't get him to do what they wanted. What caught my attention was how you approached the horse. You recognized his fears and helped him to work through them. After he was able to conquer his fears, you then were able to tame him. This shows me that you have insight and patience which are great traits of a good leader.

What you have is a great gift to see the potential in all things even if it doesn't look like there is any hope. The fact that you can pay attention to detail and pick up on things that others do not see was amazing to me. The example of you noticing what was truly hindering the horse proves that fact. You also showed great leadership qualities by sticking with the horse even if you didn't know anyone was watching. Most people would have walked away from the situation because they saw no hope. However, you looked beyond the surface and saw what could really be. That is great insight and shows that you have a special gift that others do not have. To me you are a young person that has a brain advanced for his age. I believe you have what it takes to become a great leader.

    Sincerely,

I understand that you are trying to defeat India, but us troops are war weary. We are ready to go home to our families, stating that you have no kids, we miss ours. Therefore we should just turn around and go home. Us troops need a break from all of the fighting. How selfish could you be? You are trying to force us to continue on this journey, when we are clearly fearful of the inimical things ahead of us.
You are a great leader, but I think you are letting your starvation for glory control you and cause your selfishness to overpower you. I feel we have done enough. Just imagine if we keep going along this journey, how much of a stuggle it would be to survive. I don't think we are going to make it if we continue. On the other hand, We do love and apprieciate everything you have done for us, but this isn't right.

    Sincerely,
    Quintus Curtius

  25. Dear Alexander,

When you were nineteen, you showed that you were humble and eager. You showed that you weren't just the king because you were next in line, but that you deserved the throne. You showed us by planning to conquer countries by battling. Your greatest moment of all was when we were battling and building at the same time. It was a lot of work, but we accomplished our goal. We defeated Tyre, Persia, and more and the you started to get arrogant. You declaired yourself King of Persia and demanded to be treated as a god.

From this pointon, you were giving yourself all the praise, but you couldn't have won without us, your army. After you married a Persian princess, you started adopting Persian culture and customs. I started to think and question myself . Why do we have to marry Persian women when were already married? Why can't we spend time with our families? Wasn't purpose to spread Greek culture and customs? So why are we forced to act like Persians? If we conquer all countries, what will we do next?

    Sincerely,
    Arrian

My king, I don't believe that we can go on with you. We are tired and we miss our family. We appreciate the achievements and victories that we have earned together. You have become more of a child than a man these past years. You are greedy and want everything. I don't trust your new Persian admiration.

No one here likes you wife. You make us marry women of Persia when most of us have wives and children back at Greece. You aren't eligible to be king anymore. You're a disgrace to your father's legacy and your people. I know for a fact that I'm not going to continue with you. For now you are no longer my King.

    Sincerely, Arrian

From the moment you took over the throne at 19 I could tell u had a lust for glory, fame, and much power. Many times you have proven to be the most humble kind brave caring king in all the lands of Greece. You have lead one of the greatest army's there ever will be my majesty. You have everything you could ever want Alexander. You've takin over over Asia and India what more could u want my king? Your soldiers fear for you because you have changed your ways ever since you married that Persian women. You have started acting and dressing Persian. Have your forgotten who u are my king? You are the king and commander of the greatest army to ever be brought together. Your are King Alexander the Conqueror.

Your majesty you have proven to be the greatest king in all of Greece. You have conquered many kingdoms and lands countless of times. You have never lost a battle, your men are dedicated to you and are willing to die by your side. Over these past eight years all they have done is fight for u my king. There bodies are growing weary and old.

  28. Dear Alexander,
To clarify things in this letter I do not mean to speak in an unmannerly tone or question your works. However, I believe there are some things I should address to you. We, the soldiers, feel it is unnecessary to try and defeat and /or conquer India. I along with other soldiers thought we had already encountered the many dangers that we could possibly be faced with. Crossing the Ganges was very dangerous itself, if anything we opened ourselves up to even more countries. Then hearing you talk about battling the great War nation India seemed like a great joke to me. I admit I used to think you were great, but now your war addiction has gotten out of control. You are not showing “great” qualities therefore I will not associate your name with great. Why do you feel the need to conquer India? You don’t have anything to prove anymore and you have more empire than you can control. You have become a greedy and arrogant. Because of this I honestly don’t want to fight for you anymore, but there are other reasons as well.
The other reasons soldiers are refusing to go on is because we have a family. No offense, but we soldiers have a life outside of marching around and killing people. I’m not scared of the war against India, I’m scared about what would happen back home if I died. What would my family think about me dying in a war that changed nothing nor had no effect if we won or loss other than casualties? So the other soldiers and I have decided we will go back with or without you. We are tired of the non-sense wars which serve no purpose at all. I think it shall be in your best interest to come with us. However, no matter how bad this letter sounds, I still admire some of the great things you did, but you have to know when to stop. Enough is enough and that is something that doesn’t register to you
    With respect,
    Quintus Curtius

  29. Dear Alexander
I see you like to conquer many territories and lands of greatness to please thy self. But this is getting out of hand. You are forcing us to do stuff we don’t want to, to make you happy. At first I didn’t have a problem with it but now you are going all for all. When you gave your first speech we were all up for it, but now, we are tried and we want to get back to our warm houses. Also, our families that miss us so greatly. Although you made us marry Persian women we still follow you and fight with you. It is a gift from the gods to still be alive today and to see you once again in battle, but I want this to be the last time I see you in battle. You are calling yourself a god now. Well at least Zeus’s son. And I would believe that if I was stupid, but I’m not.
It seems like you want the glory and the power of everything. All I want is the riches. As much riches that can take me a long way. Glory isn’t everything sir. I like it also, but not all of it. You should just stop a lot of power and glory isn’t good for you. Same thing applies to everybody in the world. Awhile ago you where talking about taking over Asia. To me it looks like that is the grand prize for you. You have already adapted to Persian customs from your wife. Now if you continue, you might get Asian customs in your head. This is the message I am trying to send, stop before it’s too late to turn back

    Truly,
    Arrian

  31. Dear Alexander, Over the past 8 years you have changed right before our eyes. You started out as a strong, young and powerful leader, but as years passed you became a greedy, arrogant and betraying leader. In the beginning I felt that with you we could accomplish anything because although you were very young and many had doubts you still looked past them and continued to become the most powerful leader of the world. Now it seems that because of this great power you have become conceited, vain and extremely greedy. Your first speech was probably your best speech because you motivated us to move on and become the best warriors in the world, but after hearing the speech so many times and getting hurt after every speech I started to believe that you were using us. I feel you used us as rag dolls to get what you want, which is the fame and the glory. As the years past, I reflected on them and how day and night all we thought about and did was fight. We fought for land we didn’t need, money we didn’t need and power we couldn’t use because it was all for you.

I left home with two babies and a beautiful wife, and now you want me to throw that away for your “Persian traditions”? Why should I do that when its you who loves another woman and its you who wants to merge Persian and Greece traditions? Many other soldiers as well as I are starting to believe that you are beginning to betray us and this huge Greek empire for a Persian princess. I believe that if you weren’t trying so hard to merge the traditions and cultures and trying to force us to marry, we wouldn’t be so hesitant in doing things with you. In the beginning, we were ready to conquer the world with you, but after we beat Tyre and Persia you began to let the winning go to your head and we started to resist you. You started out saying you were equal to us, but now you seem to think that you should be labeled a god.

You believe that you are better than us, but if I remembered correctly, you have the exact same things that I have in my body. Both of us are able to get killed with one gunshot to the heart if not saved in time, so what makes you think you are better than me. I want to go home, I don’t want to be here anymore. I don’t want to fight, I’m tired of fighting. What good is fighting if we don’t get to seep the rewards of it because we are too busy fighting more countries? So farewell Alexander, I am going back home for I wish to see my kids who’ve I’ve missed most of their childhood because of you. I wish you the best.

    Sincerely, Plutarch

  32. Dear Alexander,
How long has it been since you made those … what you call miracles. I remember the time you tamed that wild and rambunctious horse. From then on, I knew you were destined for greatness. When you stepped upon any territory, you conquered. Country, by country, by country, everyone knew that you were coming. Some didn’t even put up a fight.
You’re beginning to follow your father’s footsteps, but be careful of the drama and the rumors. Your father, King Phillip, kicked your mother out of the palace, and brought another woman who had his child. Today, he is viewed as a low life cheater. You don’t want your legacy to be in vain. Need I remind you that so far you have the largest empire ever made. What good is an empire that doesn’t hold up when you die? Keep that in mind you fight your battles and remember you are Alexander the GREAT.

    Sincerely, Plutarch

  33. Dear Alexander to me you are a great leader but you are not a great man. You lead us to many victories as a leader. We trusted you because of what you did for us. When we became more powerful you became weaker as a man. You started to go against what you beloved in when you began to take on the Persian ways. Then it became even worst when you began to think of your self as a god. Most people become wiser as they grow older but it seemed as if you were more wise when you were younger than you are now. This is why I say that you are a great leader but you are a despicable man.

  34. Dear Alexander “The Great”,
I would just like you to know I feel as if your title is misleading and your name, a lie. You, young man, are nowhere near wonderful and will never be. As your former teacher, I would’ve thought my styles and ways that I taught you would develop into things you apply in real life, but apparently I thought wrong. In the beginning of your rule, you were such a great present to Greece. Your father had done so well; we just knew you would too., which you did. You led our army and soldiers through many fights and conquered many countries, but as our wars continued you weren't for our country, but instead you fought for your own greedy want of glory. And that is where you went wrong.
As you continued to want more land, more power, and more people you decided to want to conquer India. But our poor dear soldiers, they were just so war weary. All they simply wanted was to go home and rest with their families. They only wanted a month or two, which was a small amount of time compared to how long they had been fighting in their war. But you simply wouldn’t have it. You even started to call yourself a god saying that everything must go your way. Our country suffered because of the way you ruled over us, but rejoiced at your death. To bring this all together, Alexander I am very unhappy with you. I only wish you could’ve continued your good ways as a king, maybe then you could’ve actually been great.
    Sincerely,
    Aristotle

You got worse over the years. You were a noble, loving, genorous, and intelligent king. You still are all those things but now you have such an I inflated ego that no body can tell you any thing.
Now my best known work is called the anabasis of Alexander. Now this a champaign on you but I still don't like what you are doing. You can't declare yourself the king. You get a wife and all of a sudden lose your mind.

You are the leader of this group. You are the encouraging one when things get tough. No matter the situation you always seem to get us out of it. You come up with ideas no one knew were possible to happen. You never gave up on us. Unlike the other Kings who watched the soldiers fight from a mountain side you actually fought with us. In any fight you were right by our sides fighting with us. I thank you for that.
All of the battles we have fought we have won because of your greatness and generosity. They ask me do I truly think that you are Alex the great and I say yes. I say yes because through every battle you never backed down you never lost and you never lost you hope. You have covered more land than any man I know or I have ever known in my life time. My good man I truly love you for all the days of my life. No matter what happens I will be with you. As you were with me I shall be with you my good brother, Alexander the Great.

    Dear Alexander,

Hello young great king, I have been keeping a close eye on you for the past couple of years. I have been watching your growth as a public figure as well as leader to man and woman. You were once a humble soul, doing the great work for the people as well as thy self. You put yourself in their shoes and not let them feel alone. Although you took place of king at quite a young age, you showed your worth to the people. As far as I can remember when you were a little bit younger, your father received a horse named Bucephalus from Philoneicus and Thessalian to see of the horse was trainable and easy to work with. Your father and his people seemed to be having a hard time with getting the horse together, therefore they said he was wild and unmanageable, but you oh dear king, proved them wrong with your patience, kindness, and large heart. You showed them how great you can be. On that day you showed that you were capable of doing amazing things. I always believed that you would once become something larger than life by your ruling and conquering for the greater good, leading man in the right direction. As time goes on I feel like your losing the humble part in you.

As I see you press on for more glory and recognition, I see you losing yourself in war, forgetting your humble and logical reasons. You my king are becoming very arrogant, mean, and inconsiderate of others. You are here forcing those who have been by you since the very beginning to go on in the war just for your benefit. Your actions and beliefs are becoming a contradiction to those who care and who follow your leading. You now say one thing but go against all original plans and beliefs. When you go off to conqeueor these places you not only put yourself at risk but others such as your workers too. You seem to not care about their families and friends waiting for them at home. When you took over Persia, you married the kings daughter. Now you're committing to their customs and traditions. You are forcing your humble dedicated soldiers to marry Persian women too. Your starting to become an irrational king. These actions you have been doing are making me change my opinion of the one and only Alexander the "GREAT". In essence are you all the great? No,maybe not.

    Alexander,

I remember when you first became ruler you were so humble and listened to what we had to say never took a soldier for granted. Now I don't even know who you are. We've been traveling and fighting for eight years now and I honestly don't think I can take any more of this. Your men are dying from infected war wounds and these diseases that our bodies can't fight. Is this our reward? Is this what we get for sticking by your side all these years?
All I ask is to see my wife and child. You can't imagine the pain I feel not seeing them for eight years. If we keep going I may never get that chance to see them. Are you not satisfied with land you've conquered and women you married? I'm starting to have doubt in you Alexander the "great". You've started to dress in Persian attire and put the Persian soldiers before us. The Alexander I knew eight years ago would never turn his back on his men. I hope you take what I'm saying into consideration Alexander instead of my words going in vain.

    One of your first soldiers,
    Quintus Curtius

  39. My dearest King Alexander,
A wild and unmanageable beast is what Bucephalus was thought to be. Many had tried, including the late King Phillip may he rest in peace, but not one had managed to tame him. The wild and unmanageable horse was deemed untamable, though you refused to believe this. You my king were able to do what no one else was able to. When you dismounted the newly tamed Bucephalus your father wept for joy as he congratulated you and assured you that Macedonia was not big enough for your ambitions. I will forever remember this day as the day that you realized your Macedonian kingdom was not vast enough for you and the day that I realized you would accomplish great things with not only your combat skills but also with your mind.
Many of your subjects have begun to question your so called greatness. You have become arrogant in deeming yourself a God and "King of Babylon, King of Asia, and King of the four Quarters of the world". In my opinion it is not a question of whether you are great or not because the answer is set int stone. Arrogance has been your downfall making the title of Alexander the Great never really yours. You are no God you are nothing but a mere mortal who has let arrogance overcome you in the pursuit of glory. All of the success you have as a leader compared to the arrogance you radiate is nothing. Therefore the answer is clear you are no son of Zeus nor are you any greater than any other mortal. All you are is an arrogant king in the pursuit of glory.

    Yours Truly,

  40. Dear Alexander,

I don't believe that you are worthy of being called "great". At the beginning of your reign, you were very sincere and open to your people but now I feel as though it was all an act to earn our trust. You were once the person that everyone looked up to, especially when you motivated us to beat Persia when we were heavily outnumbered. You eluded us with your false promises and kept us full on hope.

Now you want us to continue fighting after all we have done for you and you have really betrayed us by marrying a Persian woman. Alexander you are greedy and selfish and I hope that one day you will recognize the error of your ways and do everything in your power to make it up to your people. You at least owe us that.

  41. Dear Alexander,

As I watched you grow, my king, I realized that you would be the greatest ruler of our kingdom. That day I watched you take care of that stubborn horse is the day I knew that you would be just like your father, our former king. Now you rule over us as well as fight with us in all of our battles. I've served you as well as you rule. As a teen, after your fathers death, you battled brilliantly with us. You showed all of your soldiers that you are as great as the gods themselves when it comes to strategy and war. Year after year you have proved yourself worthy of having some freedoms. After you married the princess, you have become a little arrogant. You seemed to have abandoned us and our customs. I knew you since you were a child so i of all people should know that you would not do something as bad as that. I'm sure it was all a misunderstanding. I still feel as if your army should still follow you because you have proven to them your loyalty by not just leading them into battle but also fighting with them in the most dangerous situations. You've given them confidence when they're heads hung low, and you have also won us battles that we should have been completely slaughtered in. Yes, maybe some soldiers died, but the fact that anyone is still alive is astonishing. That alone proves that you deserve the name Alexander The Great.

You are my King and you are truly Alexander the Great. You always fight with us and for us , we love you for that. You are always trying to expand your empire and striving for glory. You were with us when we concurred the great Tyres, India and Egypt, heck you even saved my life in Tyres. I know not what you think of but I know common or mean almost never is your intention. Like when you sent the messenger to the Tyres peacefully until they killed him then you had to retaliate and show them who`s boss.

You are always competing and when there was no one to compete you`d often compete against yourself. Like that time when everyone wanted to go home but you wanted to go on and fight. Whew! That was a pure warrior mentality and in their case stubborn, but I was right by your side because you saved my life. No one will ever understand competition like you do and compete at the level you do. With that being said you now and forever will be Alexander the Great.

  43. This message describes the fears of the Macedonian troops. Look Alexander we all know that you are a great king, and that you cannot be beaten. But we Macedonians question your name ALEXANDER THE GREAT. You have taught and put us through a lot in each battle we have fought and conquered. We are tired, worn out, hurt, and are desperately missing our families. But still you continue to use us to fight in endless battles.
To us you are not the same, walking around dressed as your wife, a filthy Persian. Alex all we're asking is to go home and see our loving families. We have conquered over thousands, yet millions of kingdoms and we still continue to fight. We have all seen many of our close friends go down with our battles, and we don't want to see the same thing happen to us. We feel that we are imprisoned by you, and that cannot be freed. As I said in the beginning of this message, you're a great king the question is if you are really "GREAT".

Now i'm getting fed up of you and your selfishness. All you wanted us for is to get more power over land. I can't believe you made us marry Persians, even though we already have wives. I have to say you did our women wrong by marrying a Persian.

Wow, I have so much anger inside me I can't even let all of it out. All I want to do is see my wife and my kids. You are the most careless leader I have ever met in my life. I believe that you used to be a great leader until you allowed greed to take you over. I think that disgusting Persian had something to do with it. Ever since you married that trash, we have had to suffer greatly for it. One example is that you made us marry dirty Persians as well. On top of that, you never gave us a break to spend quality family time with our family. You wouldn't know anything about that would you?

I remember the first time I met you. I knew from your speech that you were a great leader and that I would follow you until the day I died. As time went on, you turned into a selfish, Persian loving, psychopath. I'll bet you don't even remember Macedonian traditions. I used to have so much respect for you until you became greedy and made us fight without a rest. I hope you are happy with yourself, you jerk.

  46. Dear Emperor Alexander,
The way you calmed down the horse that was afraid of is own shadow showed me that you’re a fearless leader. You were fearless and brave as you ran to claim the unwanted horse as a gift to your father. Yet you are a very eager emperor to claim and expand your empire. As a solider in your empire it’s my job is to follow you and your orders and be a loyal solider to your army. We all know your father claimed that your kingdom is not big enough for your ambitions, and we all know that Macedonia is way too small for you.
But as a very devoted soldier, I will help to expand your brilliant leader ship to the world. After thirteen years on this journey we have conquered make other kingdoms like Egypt, Persia, and Alexandria. In these thirteen years we have become the most powerful kingdom with 3,000 miles. But, Emperor you have become land hungry and we were getting exhausted and we were losing too many of our men. Also, we are also homesick we want to return back to Macedonia, and yet have you birthed a son to take your throne. We don’t know these foreign men who are fighting with us, and you are changing, so much we don’t even know who you are. But we have had enough and we turned around to return home , but you are still our Alexander the Great.
    Sincerely,

  47. Dear Alexander the Great,

Are you still that Great leader? No. We have been traveling for 10 years and have traveled for 10,000 miles. I can see the difference in you, than when it just to be us Macedonians. You dress as if you are a Persian, and have married a Persian woman. What has happen to the great leader that I use to know, I want him back. I have fought by your side for many years and feel we have gone far enough. You and I have shared the labor and the dangers, and the rewards are for us. You have all the riches and many territories.
We men want to go home to our wives and families. We have worked so hard and are tired and worn out. We want to fight for you, but we feel it is time. I haven’t had a good night sleep in a long time. You have enslaved us like we are your slaves. Without an army you can’t fight. I ask you that we may come to a decision together. You are a good leader, but aren’t that Great leader that you use to be. I have been honored to fight by your side, but it is time.

  48. Dear Alexander,
I can remember like it was yesterday seeing you when you first led this army. You were so brave and had confidence in all of us. Honoring the soldiers' ancestors touched our hearts. We even made you "our" king. And, not only did we just conquer Persia, but all of Babylon, Asia, and the 4 Quarters of the World. This army was a force to be wrecked with. Taking over countries became easier rather than harder.
However, you did change as a person for the last 8 years. After seeing you adapt to the Persian culture, I can tell you have became a bad leader. What kind of person calls himself a God? The 19-year old Alexander would have never called himself that. You even made Greeks marry Persian women! You are one unbelievable traitor! Anyone that can give you the title of "great" are out of their mind.

  49. Dear Alexander,

I've decided to answer the question that most people have a hard time with. Are you really Alexander the "Great"? I've heard many achievements that you've made, but your faults I've heard as well. People make mistakes and don't make the best decisions, I understand that, but it seems as though your faults out way your achievements. Do not misunderstand me. When you gave Bucephalus, the horse Philoneicus the Thessalian brought your father, a chance was great. You saw the good in that horse when others only saw the negative. Also, when you led your soldiers through 10,000 miles of battle, pain, and death was probably the most amazing thing I ever heard someone do.

I agree with your father, Phillip, when he told you, "My boy, you must find a kingdom big enough for your ambitions. Macedonia is too small for you." The only problem is that your title, Alexander the Great describes who you were. Over time you have changed and you're doing selfish and unlawful acts. You expect us, your people, to follow you when your wrong. Your own soldiers want to turn away from you and go back home when you are suppose to be their home. A stranger, we must not let you back into Macedonia, the place you have already destroyed. You don't deserve the name Alexander the "Great" because it's the worst name you can call someone who deserves to be thrown into a river. You, sir, are not worth the ground I step on.

    Sincerely, Plutarch (Myranda Bell 8B)

  50. Dear, Alexander

I'm here telling people and you of the time your father received a horse named Bucephalus that was wild and untamable. As it was around your father it was vicious and unmanagable. As no one not even him could get onto the horse. So your father demanded for it to be led away. As you saw what was happening you decided to try and tame the horse. So you showed him the sun because you knew that he was vicious because he was afraid of his own shadow. As you saw that it was feeling very happy and spirited again you decide to calm it down by stroking it. Then you hopped onto the horse which I thought was amazing because no one else could. And your father, King Phillip was very proud of you.

I think that you Alexander are great because what you did really shows that you are brave and courageous enough to lead us into battle against the strongest armies out there. Also if someone is steamed and angry during battle then you could calm them down by doing the same thing you did to the horse. Because as you father said you must find a kingdom big enough for your ambitions because Macedonia is too small for you.

Sincerely, Plutarch (Jeromre Terrell Adams Junior 8B)

They want to return to their families back in Macedonia. They are terrified of the awaiting dangers that are ahead. Please give them a break the vigor in their hearts are diminished and is replaced with sluggishness and weariness.

The second thing is a reminder. As much as your men complain just remember that you are a great person. You built a bridge to Tyre and conquered it. You went to Persia and killed Darius. Many men dream of doing such incredible things. And as we continue this 10,000 mile trek remember this, do not lose hope...yet.

You believed in something that everybody else thought was worthless and because of that you did something that was great. Besides that you also lead your soldiers through 10,000 miles of battle and of you conquering a lot of people. This something that nobody has ever did before and because you were able to do it, you are now known for it.
Although there were times when you let your achievements get the best of you. After all of your achievements you started becoming selfish and greedy. Like even though you already conquered so many people you still wanted to keep going and conquer more people. You were asking for so much from your soldiers and we couldn't give you everything. We thought that after conquering so many that that would be enough and we would be able to go home, but for it wasn't. You don't really know how it feels to have a family back home that you can't go back to. After a while we just thought enough was enough and we couldn't keep going. Because we have good hearts and because you are our leader, We tried to keep going with you, but how can we do that if you treat your original soldiers like nothing. We were the people that was with you since day one. You didn't have to conquer us for us to become part of your team. Yet we got treated worse than the people that fought against us before you conquered them. Because of that, we just didn't want to fight with you anymore. With that being said I think that you became cocky after all your achievements and it made you selfish and greedy also. I also think that the day that your father told you, "My boy, you must find a kingdom big enough for your ambitions. Macedonia is too small for you," you let that go to your head. Once you did find a kingdom big enough you kept wanting more than what you already had. You could have been considered Alexander the "Great", but because you let all of your achievements change the way you was, you wasn't in my eyes. You was just so different like somebody I never met before and that isn't good leadership skills when you let things take over you. If you stayed the same person and treated us the way you did since day one you would be a really "Great" person.

    Sincerely,
    Plutarch(Zaryah Christian 8B)

  55. Dear Sir Alexander,
I, Plutarch, am writing this letter to let you know that deeds that bid your name make you appear to be a horrible person. You are so wrapped up in trying to merge two cultures together that you don’t even recognize the problems that arose since you’ve decided to mix the Macedonian culture and Persian culture. Since the dawn of time, Macedonians have been taught that the Persians as our mortal enemies. This has change, however, since you’ve became in power because you feel as though you are suppose to be some type of god and fix this problem. You went so far as to marry a Persian woman and to even start dressing as them. The people are very worried about Macedonia. You are running our very noble and once cherished country right into the ground. Our once very well put together family, also known as the army, is no longer a out together family. Now that the Persians and other armies have joined the men seem to all keep to themselves. Many of us tend to despise the very sound of your name and many people don’t even want you to be the King anymore. I too am a very believer that you too should be overthrown.

Your time as being the very noble ‘Alexander the Great’ is well over expelled. The people are no longer behind you because the things you do aren’t great. You walk around and prance as if you are some sort of God but it’s quite obvious your not. A true god wouldn’t make half the mistakes you have. A true god wouldn’t be tray his people the way you have. A true God would listen to his soldiers when they say their ready to return home. And, finally, a true God would be a great leader for all his people to look up to. Can you say you’ve done any of these things? The answer to that question I a flat out no. You sir are no God. You are a man who longs for too many worldly possessions. You sir are a man who needs a complete reality check. You sure aren’t the great you claim to be.
    Sincerely,
    Plutarch (Sawani Jackson 8B)

  56. Dear Alexander,
In my last letter ,I expressed my feelings on why the soldiers said no when we were about to go into India ,but now I have come to back to answer the question if u are really Alexander the “Great" ! As one of your soldiers ,I have to say that in the beginning you cared about the people! Every time you talked we would roar with excitement just as we did in the battle against the Persians , but since then you have changed . When you were young and full of inspiration I could truly call you Alexander the Great for many reasons . You loved your men , you cared about our feelings , you watched over us , and had plans to guide us to success, but over time those great aspects started to change . You started to get greedy and selfish, and that made us very unhappy !
You lead us 10,000 miles through battle and you conquering all these places to secure your dream of having the biggest empire , but that's when you started to get selfish and greedy . After hearing us complain about wanting to see our real wives and kids instead of these substitution Persian wives that you made us get , you still wanted us to keep going ! Tired , over-worked , and home sick , you still insisted on pushing us, and that was just down low and selfish of you to do something like that to your loyal men ! You also didn't recognize that through all of this adapting to your different changes , we still stuck by your side because we looked up to you ! Soldiers fought ,sweat, bleed , suffered diseases , and injuries for you and this is how you treat us ! Alexander your achievements were great ,but you weren't because you accomplished these great achievements in the wrong way . I pray that you change your ways ,and become the man you used to be !

    Sincerely , Quintus Curtius

  57. Dear Alexander the “Great”

Or should I even call you that. You used to earn the name of Alexander the Great. When you first became our leader at nineteen you did marvelous things. At such a young age you lead us into battle and we defeated Tyre and Persia, even when we were out numbered. You were brave, trustworthy , and loyal to your people. You had potential and were ready to take over every area needed. Lately you have changed though. You have become this leader that we all hate and don’t care much for. Alexander we used to look up on you now we don’t even know if we can trust you with our lives. Our mission was to spread Greek culture around the world and now you’re making us marry Persian women.

HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US?! Don't you know that we have families back home that we love dearly? How do you think it would make them feel if they knew that I was marrying a Persian women? What has gotten into you now you think that you’re some kind of God calling yourself the son of Zeus, and dressing differently. Also its like you don’t care about the men that have been fighting with you since the very beginning. We are the ones who believed in you now you’re replacing us with persian warriors! Alexander how could you make us fight with these soldier we fought against once? How do you expect us to bond with these men in battle if we don’t even speak their language?

We wanted to go home but you would strip us of the title that we have earned all these years. So many men have died because you pushed us to go on in a battle we did not wish to fight in. We miss our families dearly and wish to see them. You are being very greedy, self-centered, and a trader. Why did you have to change Alexander? What turned you into this monster? I know longer know the man that stands in front of me before battle. You are no longer Alexander the Great.

  58. Dear Alexander ,

We , Macedonian Soldiers , are tired of fighting and conquering. The travel from Macedonian to India was very tiring and we can't go any further. All we do is fight , fight , fight we all have lives outside of fighting. We have families that we need to take care of and protect. We love fighting for you when we first started , but now we don't want to fight anymore. You are the most selfish person we have ever fought for.

Alexander you aren't great at all. You only think of yourself and don't care about your soldiers or anyone else. We shouldn't treat you like god you're just like the rest of us and you didn't create us. You even try to dress like a god , you aren't any type of god. You even treated us, Macedonian Soldiers, wrong just so you can show favoritism to the Persian Soldiers and treat them better than us. If you treated us the same way as you did in the beginning then we wouldn't be feeling this way.

Sincerely , Quintus Curtius (Alexandria Crear 8B)

  59. Dear Alexander,

Over the past 8 years you have changed right before our foolish eyes , crushing our spirits right in your little hands full of power. You started out as a strong, young and powerful leader, but as years passed you became a greedy, arrogant and a betraying leader. In the beginning I felt that with you we could accomplish anything because although you were very young and we had doubts , we still overlooked them and overcame those milestones to continued to become the most powerful army in the world. Now it seems that because of this great power you have become conceited, deceiving, and extremely piggish. Your first speech was your most empowering speech because you motivated us to press on and become the best warriors in the world, but after hearing the speech time after time each speech got less believable and less believable. Why you ask ? Because we've heard this speech a total of fifty times on this 10,000 mile voyage . On this trip i learned how foolish i was to join armies with a nineteen year old prideful , persuading liar like you.I feel you used us as puppets to get what you want, which is the fame and the glory. You use us as kind of like bait to other people wanting to join the army like you care about us and love us . When really your as deceiving as a dog who only has love for meat . As time goes by i think about how foolish of a grown man i was to join this young boy who's only in this for land , money , and self success . I apologize for even being apart of this , wasting my time with a army full of hopeless soldiers , and empty promises . You Alexander are very weak for what you are doing to us . You get pride and join out of accepting these men into this army , with knowing that with within a few thousand miles they will fill just like us the lost, forgotten , macedonians . I believe that you are an manipulator time after time , we ask you to go home but you then give us this same speech about how with one more win we will go back home and see our families , while in the inside you know that we will die on the battlefield without saying goodbye to our wives and kids . Alexander III of Macedon
you are not great at all . I do believe that you've done some great thing but you are too prideful and inconsiderate . You do not care about your warriors you are just using us for again your OWN self success leaving us in the dust to look as if we did nothing . You alexander , do not fight fair , i do not look at you the same as i once did that young promising teenager who persuaded me to be apart of this horrid adventure in the first place .

    Sincerly,
    A tired warrior

  60. Dear Alexander,

You are truly deserving to be called great. Over the past years, all you have displayed is courage, bravery, stability, and an attitude convincing enough to make any man want to fight for you. The most amazing thing I have witnessed while fighting for you was when you won the alliance of the Persians. Even after our many years of quarreling with them. Your moderation and courtesy can win over anyone. When you began to adapt your own style of living more closely to that of another country, it may have surprised many but I was very aware of your goal by doing so.

Alexander, our king. It has been an honor to fight for one of the most influential beings of our time. You are wise, brave, encouraging, and courteous. I know that if I die, I will die with the honor of having fought for you. May the favor of the Gods be with you all of your life. We shall continue to conquer.

    Sincerely,
    Plutarch

  61. Dear Alexander,
I followed you for years and years and the burden you have put on us is unbearable. At first I thought it was to scare off any intruders and show that we would always win, but as we continue, we grow more and more desperate of seeing our family. We conquered many cities and expanded our empire farther than any other army. We lost some and gained some. But we lost too many people. I want to go home. So does everyone else here, but all you want is to be a god. Well you aren’t and if you continue I may leave. We won at Gaugamela. WHY MUST WE CONTINUE?!
We conquered the known world and if we continue, it’ll mean disaster. We won at Granicus and ect. I have seen too many people die defending their country just like we did. No it’s all about your greed. What about our families, our home. When was the last time we have been home? Eight years. That’s too many. If this continues I will leave.

    Sincerely,
    Avante

  62. Dear Alexander,
Your leadership was great, but then not so great. Over the years, you started off great, but then you became caught up in trying to win and started to act selfish and not think about your people. But don't get me wrong, you gave us great words of courage when it was time to fight, but I didn't feel protected while on the battlefield. You were not a Great ruler. You barely ruled us. That is why we were all skeptical about our safety. You've made a plethora of mistakes trying to pretend you were a great leader. You were lying to yourself and your army.
From my understanding, you could never make up your own ideas. If another army had it, you had to have it, thinking it will make our army better. Let's be honest, I think the only reason you became a leader was because of your father. Nothing else, you had no experience of leadership whatsoever. You were a joke to the people you were supposed to be representing. On the other hand, you never lost a battle which made you a good leader. You had to learn from philosophers who had more experience then you. But it seems that in all the end you weren't great but at the same time you were.
    Sincerely,
    Halle F.

  63. Dear Alexandria,
Alexander,we have had many great wars together and I know that we are undefeated sir, but now it's time to hold off. Yes we are brave and strong men, and worthy to fight. There's a time when your are physically ready and mentally ready sir,but the time has passed. We have kids and wives at home, they are missing us as bad as we miss them, this is getting ridiculous, just because you think we are invincible don't mean we actually are. This is been going on for 8 years, from Macedonia to India .I demand change, are you to greedy with the victories we have and want us to use all our energy and get defeated.

If we don't have any change then we will take matters in our own hands.Your not God, you can't force us to fight when our bodies is fighting just to stay alive. From when you first came to the throne, you were a little boy that was caring and had a heart, but now it seem that your heart is frozen in ice. Let's travel back a little to the day you made us marry Persian women because you were being stubborn, now that's the day I felt you were losing your sense of humanity. You are not worthy anymore to be our leader like before.
    Sincerely,Quintus Curtius

  65. At first it was great going into battle with you, but then it started going down hill. I liked fighting for you at first but then you got all cocky and greedy because you were winning all of your battles. I can't complain too much because you did motivate us. Your speeches before battle made me want to fight even harder in battle. As we continued to fight I felt like you were becoming a trader. Why you might ask, because you married someone from the Persian I mean they were our biggest enemy. You even made us dress as them. Why? That was going against everything we believed in. I had my own family back home. Key word had. Just because you were happy with your "Presian" wife doesn't mean we will be happy with ours.
After you did that I started to question if you were really Alexander the "Great". I can't believe you were so careless. You didn't want us to see or wife or kids, but you brought your wife to every battle. I wish we could get our old leader back, but u guess that won't happen. You were someone that I looked up to but now... If i knew you were going to become a trader I would have never faught in battle with you.

    Sincerely,

  66. Dear Alexander the "Great"

I use to think you were "Alexander the Great",but that was about 8 years ago. I decided to go fight in battles with you because you said that I was fighting for my ancestors and the world. You said I would feel like a hero, but at this point I feel like failure. We have been traveling and walking for 8 years now. We have conquered almost every part of the country, or world, but I guess that isn't enough for you.

If I never agreed to follow along with you, then I would I would be at home with MY original wife and kids. I would not be here with Persian that I barely care about. I am not trying to sound rude, but I don't love them. You made me forget about my family at home just to start a new family with Persian women. The only reason you have us doing this because you are married to a Persian women. As I recall we have already defeated Persia so they are not our problem anymore. They are yours because you have Persian wife.I am starting to second guess that you actually are "Alexander the Great". I honestly think you don't you deserve "the great" after Alexander. You should just stick with the basic name, "Alexander".

    Sincerely,
    Plutarch

  67. Dear Alexander,
I am beginning to think that you aren’t so great. In the beginning, I was very excited to go and fight for our country. I had a lot of faith in you also even though many people thought different and I think I’m seeing why. Before the battle you would give a speech to ready us and you would express the point that they were fighting because of orders and we were fighting out of our own freedom. In your speech not only would you express good points, but you would also say some very encouraging and inspiring words. That usually helped us get into the fighting spirit and would make us go and want to win the battle.
But then you started to get a little too cocky and greedy after we got our first battle win. It was our first win and you were acting like it was our 100th. Later you began to want to conquer and takeover EVERY country that came in sight. Soon, many people started to get very tired and missed their families that they had left. But you wanted us to keep fighting and we didn’t want to because we only wanted to win ONE battle and you started taking it to the extreme. Not only did you start to ignore us, but you also started to get an even bigger ego. So after you were saying the same speech over and over, it began to get boring and we eventually stopped fighting for you. This is why I believe you aren’t so great.
    Sincerely,
    Quanchi

  68. Dear Alexander,

I have always admired you, but as time goes by I believe you are no longer worthy of being 'Alexander the Great'. You have always lead us in the war and you have always been a great leader, but now you expect us to leave our families for more war. Don't you think we have fought enough? Won enough? I guess family isn't in your vocabulary anymore.

You expect us to leave our families again and again. We have traveled for about eight years straight. We have won so many pieces of land that it is unbelievable. You have us travel across the world and yet we are tired but we still fight til;l the death of our people. I'm sorry Alexander but I don't think i can go on with this anymore.

    ~Sincerely Plutarch

  69. Dear Alexander,

Are you so great after all? We had great times in the beginning of the battle. We destroyed and conquered many cities and countries but we grew tired. You wanted to keep going and build your empire, but we just wanted to go home and be with our families. In the beginning you gave us great speeches but we’ve had tons of those speeches now and they aren’t so encouraging anymore. At first you were all about your men and connected with us, but now we don’t know who you are anymore and we think you don’t know us either.
I’m done with you being in charge and just wanting to gain you empire. There’s more to life than just war. We have families that love us dearly but now we have been conditioned to only love our swords and have the satisfactory of slaying one and beating the next. This is not the life for me anymore. Sure it was an adrenaline rush when I was younger, but I’ve grown older and wiser and I know now this is not the life I want for myself anymore. I am very sure my comrades feel the same way. So, this is it and I decide to go back home.

    Sincerely,
    Quintus Curtius

  70. Dear Alexander,

At first I thought you were really great, but then i started to question myself about you because you made us dress like the Persians. That kinda made us feel like we were them, but better than they were. It was fun winning all those battles with you,but know we miss our family’s. We started getting the feeling that you didn’t care about us wanting to see our family’s because you always had your wife at every battle. It’s like an empty space in our hearts that needs to be filled with our wives and childrens love. I hope one day that you get separated from your wife so that you can feel that empty space inside your heart.

This was a dream come true for me to have fought in battle with you,but know I don’t want this life anymore I want to go home to my family. I guess this might be the life for your till you die so that you can prove to everyone how great you really are. Everyone would not have thought you were really great if they had to fight in battle with you every day and saw how you didn’t care about them seeing their family’s. This is why I think you are and aren’t so great after all.

    Dear Alexander,

You proclaim yourself as a god and make no notion to correct nor fix this terrible conclusion.Yes you studied under the best, yes you rule some of the highest land and lowest sea but you are no better then i or anyone else.Time continues with life and you will die and lose it all.You can not call your self a god when you are not perfect for say you are wise when you act as if not taught.I studied under the best but i keep my humble hand for wisdom is a tool that is gentle. You see a horse and fix its problem with mind, body, and soul. You become one of the horse at that moment so i ask,did you feel as a god? Did Zeus himself say well done? These false accusations you make about your self when are not what you use to be.

You were once was a noble graceful man who respect his word and his men.You stood for one thing, which was to expand Greece, and the image you have been giving off is deceiving to dress like a Persian.A great warrior,YES,you fought and won a war where they used elephants and you never lost a battle. The advise you should have taken if given or given yourself should have been to know when to stop.Keeping your men on making them turn against you because no longer in their eyes are you the same man.You Alexander are a great man in spirit but you have been hiding that part of your for glory and power, which makes me contact you,if you don't stop you'll end up worse then you start which should result in death.A great man in many things could die because he didn't have enough.
